Greta Thunberg, the Icon of Insane Activism

Greta Thunberg, the Icon of Insane Activism

I just don’t know. Some people get far too much space in manipulative media. Greta Thunberg has slipped out of fashion, and perhaps that’s why she traded “saving the planet” for full-blown political agitation. Well, people do what makes them happy.

She still has the image of the brave kid who wants to save the planet. She became famous, she got the opportunity to talk to world leaders, and I really don’t know why. On the other hand, I understand that world leaders love ecology marketing, and she was useful for green promotion.

She openly talked about her mental health issues, which I would never do.

Asperger’s Syndrome

Asperger’s Syndrome is now folded into Autism Spectrum Disorder, often described as high-functioning in older language.

Greta was diagnosed around age 11. She openly calls it her “superpower” because it lets her hyper-focus like a machine on climate shit and say things most people are too polite to spit out.

Social cues? Not her strong suit. Blunt as fuck? Absolutely.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

She was diagnosed with OCD around the same period.

The intense, can’t-let-it-go fixation on one thing, climate doom in her case, fits the picture. She overthinks everything and struggles to just move on when something bugs her.

Selective Mutism

She basically stopped talking to almost everyone except her family for years as a kid. She only speaks when she decides it is worth it. That is why her big speeches hit like she has been saving every word.

Around that same age, she also had a bad depression and eating disorder phase. She lost a lot of weight, stopped eating, and stopped talking. Her parents wrote about it in their book. Rough time for the whole family.

Young woman

She is no longer a kid. She is a young woman who has openly said she has dealt with mental health issues since she was a teenager. I wish her the best in getting the right medical support. Having mental health issues sucks.

She is not “crazy” in the wild sense, but yes, the combo makes her come across as intense, repetitive, and zero-filter, which plenty of people read as “a bit mental.” Maybe those are exactly the attributes that earned her TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2019.

Not Everyone Was Celebrating

While media celebrated her, some guys had different opinions.

Donald Trump said: “So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, chill!” Later, he also said: “She’s a strange person… a young, angry person… she has to go to an anger management class.”

Vladimir Putin said: “I don’t share the common excitement about the speech by Greta Thunberg… Nobody explained to Greta that the modern world is complex… I’m sure that Greta is a kind and very sincere girl, but adults must do everything not to bring teenagers and children into some extreme situations.”

Jeremy Clarkson said: “She has no knowledge of how the world works, no manners… I simply don’t get the Thunberg phenomenon.” He also called her a “spoilt brat” and said she deserved a “smacked bottom.”

Michael Knowles, a conservative commentator, said: “The climate hysteria movement is not about science… it would be led by scientists rather than by politicians and a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left.”

Piers Morgan mocked her UN speech impression: “How dare you. You have stolen my morning. You have stolen my airtime. I have no life. How dare you.” Later, he said: “Oh shut up, Greta Thunberg, you attention-seeking narcissist.”

Rowan Dean, a Sky News host, reacted to her “Fuck Germany and Fuck Israel” clip by calling her comments “pathetic” and “juvenile.”

From Climate Anger to Country Shouting

She’s clearly upgraded her hate list to entire countries now. Look, I know global issues drive plenty of people mad, but instead of screaming country names, maybe name the actual responsible people?

Greta is not my cup of sustainably sourced tea. And clearly I’m not the only one.

Anyway, I think it is embarrassing to watch super important and supposedly strong world leaders listening to a kid as if she had just climbed down from Mount Climate with stone tablets in her hands. These people run countries, fly private jets to climate conferences, and still pretend to be morally educated by a teenager for the cameras. It sucks.
