Video Downloader for X is developed and maintained by Milan, owner of the It Sucks! project, available at itsucks.fyi.

It Sucks! is an independent, non-commercial project that publishes free software and resources, including WordPress plugins and browser extensions. It is not operated as an advertising or user-data business.

Video Downloader for X is provided free of charge, contains no advertising, and does not monetize user information.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension processes to provide its functionality, where that processing occurs, and how the information is handled.

Data Collection

Video Downloader for X does not collect user data for the developer, does not send user data to an It Sucks! server, and does not maintain a remote user database.

The extension does not use:

  • Analytics
  • Advertising trackers
  • Browsing activity tracking for analytics, advertising, or profiling
  • Usage telemetry
  • Pings or heartbeats
  • User accounts or registration
  • External downloader or conversion services

The extension does not maintain its own history of the videos or images you download.

Information required to provide the extension’s functionality is processed locally in the browser or communicated directly with X and X’s media infrastructure when necessary to identify, resolve, or download media requested by the user.

Website Content

For Chrome Web Store disclosure purposes, information processed from X pages, including text, images, videos, hyperlinks, URLs, and related page data, is treated as Website content.

Video Downloader for X inspects only the X page and media information needed to identify the video or image that the user requests to download.

This may include:

  • Numeric X post IDs used to identify requested media
  • Status and media links associated with an X post
  • Limited public account-handle information used locally to match a post with its correct status link and avoid confusing quoted posts with the selected post
  • Limited post text used to create a readable filename
  • Video and image URLs
  • Available video variants, resolutions, bitrates, and media formats
  • Image and video metadata returned by X
  • Technical information exposed by X that is necessary to resolve downloadable media

This information is used only to provide the requested download functionality and related local troubleshooting.

Website content is not transmitted to an It Sucks! server, stored in an external database, sold, used for advertising, or used for profiling.

Temporary X Request Metadata

To remain compatible with changes to X’s internal media-information requests, Video Downloader for X may temporarily observe technical resource information generated by X while an X or Twitter page is open.

The extension retains only matching X GraphQL request shapes for the TweetResultByRestId and TweetDetail operations. This may include the X endpoint name and query parameters used by X’s own page. Unrelated resource entries are discarded and are not retained by the extension.

A small number of recent matching request shapes are kept only in the current tab’s runtime memory. When needed, the extension replaces the target post ID with the post selected by the user and sends the resulting media-information request only back to X.

This temporary information is not sent to It Sucks!, is not used to build browsing history, and is discarded when the relevant tab is reloaded or closed.

Authentication Information

For Chrome Web Store disclosure purposes, authentication cookies, tokens, and similar credentials are treated as Authentication information.

For some video downloads, Video Downloader for X may use X.com’s existing CSRF token (ct0) from the user’s active X session when it is necessary to request media information directly from X.

The extension reads only the page-accessible ct0 value when needed. It does not read X’s auth_token cookie and does not ask the user to provide authentication information manually.

When a session-based media-information request is made, the browser may also include the user’s existing X session cookies automatically as part of the request back to X. Those cookies are handled by the browser and are not read, copied, or stored by Video Downloader for X.

The ct0 value:

  • Is used only when communicating directly with X
  • Is sent only back to X as part of an X media-information request
  • Is not transmitted to It Sucks!
  • Is not stored on an It Sucks! server
  • Is not stored by the extension as a user preference or download history
  • Is not included in analytics or tracking
  • Is not used for advertising or profiling
  • Is not used to access unrelated account information

If a session-based media-information request is unavailable, the extension may request a temporary guest token directly from X for public-post media resolution. This guest token is provided by X, is not the user’s password or account credential, and is not transmitted to the developer.

Video Downloader for X does not request, collect, read, or store your X password.

Local Extension Settings

Video Downloader for X uses Chrome’s local extension storage to remember the user’s preferences.

Currently, these settings are:

  • Whether video download buttons are enabled
  • Whether image download buttons are enabled

These preferences are stored locally by Chrome so that the selected settings remain available between browser sessions.

They are not transmitted to the developer.

Temporary Download Information

When Chrome starts a requested download, Video Downloader for X temporarily keeps a small amount of technical information so it can detect and report a download that fails after Chrome has already accepted it.

This temporary information may include:

  • Chrome’s internal download ID
  • The originating browser tab ID
  • Whether the requested media is a video or image
  • The numeric X post ID, when available

This information is used only for download-status and error reporting.

It is kept temporarily in Chrome’s session storage and in the extension’s runtime memory. The record is removed when the relevant download completes or fails. Chrome’s session storage is also cleared when the browser session ends.

This information is not transmitted to the developer and is not used to create a download history.

Error Log

Video Downloader for X includes a small local Error Log to help diagnose download problems.

The Error Log may contain:

  • The local time at which an error occurred
  • A short technical error message
  • The numeric X post ID associated with the failed request, when available
  • Chrome download interruption information
  • Media-resolution or network failure information

URLs contained in technical error messages are scrubbed before the message is added to the local Error Log.

The Error Log is:

  • Stored only in the current X tab’s temporary runtime memory
  • Limited to a small number of recent entries
  • Not used for analytics
  • Not automatically transmitted to It Sucks!

Reloading or closing the relevant X tab clears the temporary Error Log.

The extension popup displays the installed extension version separately from the Error Log.

If a user chooses to report a problem, they may manually copy the relevant error information and submit it through the support article and comment section on itsucks.fyi. In that case, the information is provided intentionally by the user for support purposes.

Nothing from the Error Log is submitted automatically.

Video and Image Downloads

Videos and images requested by the user are downloaded using X’s own media infrastructure.

Video Downloader for X does not upload requested media to an It Sucks! server and does not route downloads through an external downloader or conversion service.

For images, the extension may make short requests directly to X’s media infrastructure to determine which original image format is actually available before starting the requested download. These requests are used only to resolve the requested image and are not sent to the developer.

For videos, the extension may request media metadata directly from X and may use X’s syndication or media endpoints as fallbacks when necessary to locate a downloadable MP4 variant.

The extension then uses Chrome’s download functionality to save the requested media to the user’s computer.

Downloads occur only after the user chooses to download a video or image.

No Sale or Unrelated Transfer of User Data

It Sucks! does not sell user data.

Information processed by Video Downloader for X is not transferred to the developer, advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or other services for:

  • Advertising
  • Marketing
  • Profiling
  • Creditworthiness
  • Lending
  • Behavioral analysis
  • Purposes unrelated to the extension’s functionality

Communication with X and X’s media infrastructure occurs only as necessary to identify, resolve, and download media explicitly requested by the user.

External Links

The extension contains links to the It Sucks! website and an optional PayPal tip page.

Opening these links is voluntary. Once an external website is opened, that website operates according to its own privacy practices and policies.

Video Downloader for X does not send information about downloaded videos or images to PayPal.

Any payment information entered on PayPal is handled by PayPal and is not processed or stored by Video Downloader for X.

Data Retention

Video Downloader for X does not maintain a remote database of users, browsing activity, downloaded media, authentication information, or download history.

The only persistent data stored by the extension consists of the user’s local video and image download preferences.

Temporary X request metadata is kept only in the current tab’s runtime memory and disappears when that tab is reloaded or closed.

Temporary technical download records exist only while necessary to monitor an active download and are removed when the download completes or fails. Chrome session storage is also cleared when the browser session ends.

Temporary Error Log information is stored only in the relevant X tab and is cleared when that tab is reloaded or closed.

Chrome itself may retain its normal browser download history according to the user’s Chrome settings. Video Downloader for X does not create or maintain a separate download-history database.

Data Security

Communication with X, X’s APIs, and X’s media infrastructure uses HTTPS.

Video Downloader for X does not transmit user data to an It Sucks! server and does not operate a separate backend service for processing downloads.

The extension does not download or execute remote JavaScript or other remote executable code. Its executable code is packaged with the extension.

The extension requests only the browser permissions and website access needed to provide its video and image download functionality, local settings, compatibility handling, and download error reporting.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Video Downloader for X uses information accessed through the browser only to provide or improve its disclosed user-facing download functionality and related reliability features.

Information handled by the extension is not used or transferred for personalized advertising, retargeting, interest-based advertising, user profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes.

The extension does not permit the developer or other humans to access website content, authentication information, or other information processed locally by the extension unless the user independently chooses to submit specific troubleshooting information for support.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if the functionality of Video Downloader for X changes, if additional clarification becomes necessary, or if Chrome Web Store requirements change.

The current version of this Privacy Policy will remain available on the It Sucks! website.
