Privacy Policy for Simple X Video Downloader
Effective date: August 21, 2026
Simple X Video Downloader is developed and maintained by Milan, owner of the It Sucks! project, available at itsucks.fyi.
It Sucks! is a long-running independent, non-commercial project that publishes free software and resources, including WordPress plugins and browser extensions. It is not operated as an advertising or user-data business.
Simple X Video Downloader is provided free of charge, contains no advertising, and does not monetize user information.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension needs to process in order to provide its functionality and how that information is handled.
Data Collection
Simple X Video Downloader does not collect or transmit personal user data to the developer.
The extension does not use:
- Analytics
- Advertising trackers
- Browsing activity tracking
- Usage tracking
- Telemetry
- Pings or heartbeats
- User accounts or registration
- External downloader services
The extension does not maintain a history of the videos or images you download.
Information required to provide the extension’s functionality is processed locally in the browser or communicated directly with X and X’s media infrastructure when necessary to identify or download media requested by the user.
Website Content
The Chrome Web Store considers information processed from a website, including text, images, videos, hyperlinks, URLs, and related page data, to be Website content.
Simple X Video Downloader needs to inspect limited X post and media information to identify the video or image that the user explicitly requests to download.
This may include:
- Media information associated with an X post
- Video and image URLs
- Available video resolutions and media formats
- Image and video media metadata
- Numeric X post IDs used to identify requested media
- Limited post text used to create a readable filename
- Technical information exposed by X that is necessary to resolve downloadable media
This information is processed only as necessary to provide the extension’s download functionality and troubleshooting features.
Website content is not collected by It Sucks!, transmitted to an It Sucks! server, stored in an external database, sold, used for advertising, or used for profiling.
Authentication Information
The Chrome Web Store considers authentication cookies, tokens, and similar credentials to be Authentication information.
For some video downloads, Simple X Video Downloader may use X.com’s existing CSRF token (ct0) from the user’s active X session when it is necessary to request media information from X.
The extension reads only the page-visible ct0 value when needed. It does not read X’s auth_token cookie and does not ask the user to provide authentication information manually.
When an authenticated media-information request is made, the browser may also include the user’s existing X session cookies automatically as part of the request back to X. These cookies are handled by the browser and are not read or stored by Simple X Video Downloader.
The ct0 value:
- Is used only when communicating directly with X
- Is sent only back to X as part of an X media-information request
- Is not transmitted to It Sucks!
- Is not stored on an It Sucks! server
- Is not stored by the extension as a user preference or history
- Is not included in analytics or tracking
- Is not used for advertising or profiling
- Is not used to access unrelated account information
If a session-based media-information request is unavailable, the extension may request a temporary guest token directly from X for public-post media resolution. This guest token is provided by X, is not the user’s password or account credential, and is not transmitted to the developer.
Simple X Video Downloader does not request, collect, read, or store your X password.
Local Extension Settings
Simple X Video Downloader uses Chrome’s local extension storage to remember the user’s preferences.
Currently, these settings are:
- Whether video download buttons are enabled
- Whether image download buttons are enabled
These preferences are stored locally by Chrome so that your selected settings remain available between browser sessions.
They are not transmitted to the developer.
Temporary Download Information
When Chrome starts a requested download, Simple X Video Downloader may temporarily keep a small amount of technical information so that it can detect and report a download that fails after Chrome has already accepted it.
This temporary information may include:
- Chrome’s internal download ID
- The originating browser tab ID
- Whether the requested media is a video or image
- The numeric X post ID, when available
This information is used only for download status and error reporting.
It is stored temporarily using Chrome’s session storage and in the extension’s temporary runtime memory. It is removed when the relevant download completes or fails. Chrome’s session storage is also temporary and is cleared when the browser session ends.
This information is not transmitted to the developer and is not used to create a download history.
Error Log
Simple X Video Downloader includes a small local Error Log to help diagnose download problems.
The Error Log may contain short technical messages related to the extension’s ability to identify, resolve, or download requested media. Depending on the error, this may include:
- A technical error message
- The numeric X post ID associated with the failed request, when available
- Chrome download interruption information
- Media-resolution or network failure information
- The installed extension version
The Error Log is:
- Local
- Temporary
- Limited in size
- Not used for analytics
- Not automatically transmitted to It Sucks!
Reloading or closing the relevant X tab clears the temporary Error Log.
If a user chooses to report a problem, they may manually copy the relevant error information and submit it through the support article and comment section on itsucks.fyi.
Nothing from the Error Log is automatically submitted.
Video and Image Downloads
Videos and images requested by the user are downloaded using X’s own media infrastructure.
Simple X Video Downloader does not upload the requested media to an It Sucks! server and does not route downloads through an external downloader or conversion service.
For images, the extension may make short requests to X’s media infrastructure to determine which original image format is actually available before starting the requested download. These requests are used only to resolve the requested image and are not sent to the developer.
The extension then uses Chrome’s download functionality to save the requested media to the user’s computer.
Downloads occur only after the user chooses to download a video or image.
No Sale or Unrelated Transfer of User Data
It Sucks! does not sell user data.
Information processed by Simple X Video Downloader is not transferred to the developer, advertisers, analytics providers, data brokers, or other services for:
- Advertising
- Marketing
- Profiling
- Creditworthiness
- Lending
- Behavioral analysis
- Purposes unrelated to the extension’s functionality
Communication with X and X’s media infrastructure occurs only as necessary to identify, resolve, and download media explicitly requested by the user.
External Links
The extension contains links to the It Sucks! website and an optional PayPal tip page.
Opening these links is voluntary. Once an external website is opened, that website operates according to its own privacy practices and policies.
Simple X Video Downloader does not send information about downloaded videos or images to PayPal.
Any payment information entered on PayPal is handled by PayPal and is not processed or stored by Simple X Video Downloader.
Data Retention
Simple X Video Downloader does not maintain a remote database of users, browsing activity, downloaded media, authentication information, or download history.
The only persistent extension data consists of the user’s locally stored video and image download preferences.
Temporary technical download records exist only while necessary to monitor an active download and are removed when the download completes or fails. Chrome session storage is also cleared when the browser session ends.
Temporary Error Log information is stored only in the relevant X tab and is cleared when that tab is reloaded or closed.
Data Security
Communication with X, X’s APIs, and X’s media infrastructure uses HTTPS.
Simple X Video Downloader does not transmit user data to an It Sucks! server and does not operate a separate backend service for processing downloads.
The extension requests only the browser permissions and website access necessary to provide its video and image download functionality, local settings, and download error reporting.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Simple X Video Downloader uses information accessed through the browser only to provide or improve its user-facing functionality.
Information handled by the extension is not used or transferred for personalized advertising, retargeting, interest-based advertising, user profiling, or unrelated purposes.
The extension does not permit humans to access website content, authentication information, or other data processed locally by the extension unless the user independently chooses to submit troubleshooting information through the support website.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the functionality of Simple X Video Downloader changes, if additional clarification becomes necessary, or if Chrome Web Store requirements change.
The current version of this Privacy Policy will remain available on the It Sucks! website.
